Uttarakhand Congress chief spokesperson Garima Mehra Dasauni has criticised the independent MLA Umesh Kumar for the claim he made in Vidhan Sabha in Gairsain regarding the Gupta brothers’ alleged attempts to destabilise the government. Calling it irresponsible, she emphasised that the Vidhan Sabha is regarded as a temple of democracy, not a battleground for settling personal disputes through misleading allegations. She questioned the legitimacy of Kumar’s claims and asked why Kumar seemed concerned about a possible conspiracy to topple chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s government. She also raised doubts about the State’s Intelligence unit, questioning how an independent MLA would be aware of such information before the government. Dasauni also posed a question about the BJP legislators’ loyalty, suggesting that if any wealthy individuals could purchase them, it would indicate a major issue for the ruling party. She called on the Speaker of the Assembly to instruct Kumar to substantiate his claims with evidence. She remarked that what transpired in Vidhan Sabha was unfortunate and detrimental to the dignity of the institution, urging for accountability and transparency in addressing such serious allegations.
