Union Govt notifies a new National Highway in U’khand
Simli- Gwaldam- Bageshwar-Jauljibi State Highway (SH) converted to National Highway
In a move which would give a major boost to the road connectivity between areas located in higher reaches of Garhwal and Kumaon regions and prove beneficial for the villages around Gairsain, the summer capital of Uttarakhand, the Union government has converted the 230 km long Simli- Gwaldam- Bageshwar-Jauljibi State Highway (SH) road into the National Highway (NH). This road would be named as NH 109 K.
In a gazette notification, the Union ministry of Road, Transport and highways declared this important road as NH. The breadth of the road in this section would be made double under the ambitious Bharatmala project.
The declaration means that the money on broadening the road and its maintenance would be spent by the union government thus saving major revenue of the state government.
Expressing happiness on the development, the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said that one of the major demands of Uttarakhand has been fulfilled by the declaration of converting this important SH into NH. He also expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Surface transport minister Nitin Gadkari for the announcement. Rawat said that this road is very important as it links the places located in remote and border areas.
