The transport unions said on Sunday that they will file a case of contempt in the Uttarakhand High Court if the Transport department fails to cancel all permits recently issued to Tata Magic (mini buses) operators in Dehradun in 15 days.
The president of the city bus union Vijay Vardhan Dandriyal said that they have written to the regional transport authority (RTA) and regional transport office in Dehradun informing that in a meeting held on November 1 last year, the RTA had decided to issue contract carriage permits to 10 seater mini buses in lieu of Vikrams that hold contract carriage permits. He claimed, ” As per the undertaking of RTO to the court in the year 2014, the RTO had reportedly stated at that time that it is neither considering issuing stage carriage permits to mini bus operators at present nor will it do so in the future. Now it has issued the stage carriage permits to hundreds of mini bus operators.
Considering this, we have decided to file a case of contempt against RTO and officials concerned in the High Court.” He said that the RTO has violated its undertaking or assurance given in the petition number 2076/2014 which comes under the category of contempt. “We have informed about this decision to the officials concerned and have asked them to cancel all stage carriage permits issued to mini bus operators in 15 days. If they fail to do so, we will have no other choice but to approach the High Court,” added Dandriyal.
