In an effort to promote reading among individuals, Arc Stationaries in collaboration with Book Tale, has organised a four-day book fair in Dehradun from September 21 to 24. This book fair is different from other such events because of its unique concept of the story box. The event showcases a wide selection of 3,00,000 books including novels along with books on history, literature, books for post-graduates and religious texts.
Commenting on the book fair, the managing director of Book Tale, Hed Rathod said, “For the first time, we are presenting a book fair in Doon bringing forth a distinct experience. Customers are given the opportunity to choose between two sizes of story boxes, the larger box priced at Rs 2,500 and the smaller box being priced at Rs 1,500. By purchasing a story box, customers can conveniently store multiple books within.” The books they can carry in the box are theirs.
He further stated that the objective of the book box is to raise awareness among young adults and cultivate a strong connection between them and books. Visitors claimed that this endeavour in Doon will help enhance the engagement of young adults with books, a practice that has been lacking in recent years. A college student, Aastha Negi said that she discovered many books related to her academic courses. She expressed her admiration for the concept of the story box featured at the fair. She said that such an initiative in Doon will contribute to the diversification of reading material for young adults. She further emphasised the unique benefits that physically reading books offers, as it allows for a better connection with the storyline.
Housemaker Anandita Thapliyal said, “Presently, the prevalence of e-books has deterred young adults from engaging in physical book reading. However, it is hoped that book fairs with innovative concepts, like the one in the discussion, will succeed in reconnecting more individuals to the habit of reading actual books. This is important as reading books online can place strain on both the mind and the eyes.”
