University student arrested for accidentally shooting friend

The police have arrested a university student for allegedly shooting his friend accidentally in Dehradun some days ago. According to the police, information was received on April 16 about a youth Shashi Shekhar (21) being shot in the head under suspicious circumstances. He is a BSc second year student in a private institute in the Premnagar area and was staying at a paying guest accommodation.

Police investigations revealed that Shekhar’s friend Shashi Ranjan (21) was also present in the room with the victim. During questioning, Ranjan, who is also a BSc second year student in the same institute said that on the day of the incident, both of them were sitting in the room. He said that Shekhar used to keep a handgun on his bed’s headrest. Shekhar reportedly took the firearm out and showed it to Ranjan.

According to the police, Ranjan said that he accidently pulled the trigger of the gun while handling it. The bullet hit Shekhar in the head. He started bleeding from the head and fell down injured on the bed. Ranjan said that he got scared, put the firearm and its magazine back where Shekhar had kept it. He left the room and later Shekhar was brought to the hospital with the help of other friends. Considering Ranjan’s involvement in the incident, the police arrested him and booked him under various sections of BNS.
