A case of cyber fraud has been reported from Dehradun where a sub-inspector posted in the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) became a victim of online fraud. The victim, Ram Chandra Singh said that an unknown person had filed his income tax return without his knowledge and fraudulently transferred a refund of Rs 79,740 to another bank account.
As per the complaint, the officer was posted in Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir, from May to September 2025. During this time, mobile SIM cards from other states did not work there and so he could not receive OTPs or messages on his phone. Taking advantage of this, the fraudster had managed to access his details and file the return, the complainant alleged.
The matter came to light in October 2025 when the officer tried to file his income tax return and found it had already been submitted. He then checked and discovered that the refund amount had been transferred to an unknown account instead of his own.
After this, he filed a complaint with the police. Raipur police station has registered a case and started an investigation. Police officials said they are examining the bank account and trying to identify the accused.
