UP man becomes first to register a case under new criminal law in U’khand

A resident of Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, Vipul Bhardwaj became the first person to register a case under the new criminal laws in Uttarakhand. He registered an FIR in Jwalapur Kotwali of Haridwar district at 1:45 AM on Monday. The case was filed under Section 309(4) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS 2023) based on Bharadwaj’s complaint against two unidentified persons.
The Haridwar senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobhal said that Bharadwaj registered a complaint on Monday at 1:45 AM stating that two unidentified persons threatened to kill him with a knife when he was sitting near Ravidas Ghat. They allegedly snatched his phone and cash worth Rs 1,400 and pushed him towards the Ganga river before fleeing. The SSP claimed that the police also provided a digitally signed copy of the FIR to the accused, which was the first FIR copy generated under the new criminal law in the State.
The police have launched an investigation and are working to apprehend the accused, he added. Besides this, the provision capital Dehradun also registered the first case of the Dehradun district under the new criminal law in the Rajpur police station. The complainant Rajesh Kumar registered a complaint against an unknown person who hit him with his vehicle, as per the police.
