The police arrested two men in possession of 25 kilogrammes of Ganja in Haridwar on Wednesday. The accused, identified as Rahul Pratap Singh and Lokesh Kumar Sharma, both residents of Uttar Pradesh, were allegedly planning to sell the contraband to Kanwadias. The officials said that the arrest took place near the gate of the Transport Nagar on Sarai Road in the Jwalapur area of Haridwar.

According to them, the accused had brought the Ganja in their car from UP with the intention of profiting from sales to the Kanwadias in the Kanwad Yatra. The police arrested them and they will be presented in court soon. The officials said that Kanwad Yatra attracts a large number of devotees to Haridwar every year that creates a significant crowd in public areas.

To counteract such illegal activities during Yatra, the police have implemented strict measures to prevent anti-social elements from exploiting the heavy influx of pilgrims. Regular checks are being conducted across the district to maintain peace, law and order during the Kanwad Yatra period, the officials said. They added that the police are working day and night to ensure the safety and security of all pilgrims and residents in Haridwar during this time.
