Former Tehri MLA and ex Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyaya urged chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to revoke the state government’s earlier decision by approaching the high court with written assurances of strictly adhering to Covid 19 protocols and request to open the Char Dham Yatra. Welcoming the chief minister on his first visit to Tehri after assuming charge, the Congress leader and Vanadhikar Andolan founding patron submitted a 19-point memorandum raising several important issues. Upadhyaya demanded revocation of the orders of Sridev Suman University terminating the services of its employees, requesting for their reemployment with retrospective effect. He also demanded declaration of Uttarakhandis as forest dwellers, facilitating monetary compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the bereaved families of those killed by man eaters and wild animals with a government job to next of the kin. Upadhyaya further demanded withdrawal of all the court cases against the Tehri dam evacuees compounded with re allotment of new shops to the owners of Koti Colony Bazaar shops which are in extremely dilapidated condition.

Communicating the problems being faced by the Tehri dam evacuees and those of UPNL employees, he requested allotment of housing facilities at the earliest. He also sought immediate redressal of the grade pay issue of the Uttarakhand police personnel. In the context of high rent/ fare imposed on the boat owners of Tehri lake Upadhyaya requested the chief minister to decrease it from the present rate to a lesser amount giving relief to the boat owners.

Elaborating on the grievance of the Tehri residents the memorandum stated that the land assessment of the Tehri dam has not been done yet and permission has been granted to enhance the level of Tehri dam, which is not justifiable.
