UPCL installs smart meter at residence of secretary power

The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited installed a smart meter at the residence of secretary, power R Meenakshi Sundaram on Tuesday. The Managing Director of UPCL, Anil Yadav said that the initiative will encourage the consumers to install smart meters in their premises. He said that the process of installation of smart meters is being started from the residences of the officers and employees of the three power corporations of the State.
The MD requested all the electricity consumers and government offices and officers of the State to adopt the state-of-the-art smart meter based on new technology. He said that the control of these meters will be in the hands of consumers. Also, consumers will be able to turn on their electricity with a minimum recharge of Rs100.
Yadav added that the consumers will get online availability of information related to electricity consumption from the smart meters, every information about electricity usage, messages of all important information, freedom from the hassle of wrong electricity bills. He said that the consumers who have installed rooftop solar plants will get the facility to convert this meter into net meter along with many other easy payment options. Apart from this, with the introduction of smart meters, there will be a decline in electricity theft in the State, he said.
