Following the directions of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has issued guidelines to all regional units regarding measures for the monsoon season. Stating this, UPCL managing director Anil Kumar informed that he has instructed officials of all regional units to conduct patrols, inspections, and earthing of 33 kV, 11 kV and LT lines to prevent potential electrical accidents resulting from leaks during the rainy season. He emphasised the importance of completing necessary tasks such as repairs before peak of the monsoon to prevent any loss of life due to electrical accidents. Additionally, Kumar highlighted that the guidelines include the prompt arrangement of essential storage of items like poles, cables, transformers, conductors and decentralised materials at the nearest sub stations or storage centres, especially in highly sensitive areas, to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the event of a potential disaster.
He further added that precautionary measures must be taken in light of the monsoon season. All officers and employees are required to remain present at their designated headquarters unless faced with unavoidable circumstances. This is essential to ensure prompt restoration of power supply in case of emergencies. Apart from this, It is imperative that all personnel prioritise adherence to safety protocols to prevent electrical accidents resulting from waterlogging in various areas due to heavy rainfall, he added.
“All officers must maintain continuous communication with chief engineers regarding power supply status using the designated WhatsApp group. Further, a control room has been established at the headquarters to facilitate rapid information exchange concerning power outages during the monsoon season. The control room in-charge will liaise with regional officials to acquire and relay information to the State disaster centre and managing director of UPCL,” Kumar said.
