UPCL prepared to maintain power supplies during winters: Yadav

In view of the prevailing cold weather conditions in the State, the managing director of the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) Anil Kumar Yadav has directed all the field officers to make necessary preparations to maintain uninterrupted power supply during winters.

He said that the meteorologists have predicted potential conditions of La Nina with a possibility of extremely cold weather, moisture, fog, rain and snowfall in the State during winters this year. Such conditions which can affect the power distribution system in the State. He said that the distribution network is consistently being monitored and the work of preventive maintenance of all 33/11 kV substations, feeders and transformers is being done on priority.

He said that all regional and divisional officers have been directed to keep sufficient quantities of transformers, trolleys, cables, conductors, insulators and other necessary electrical materials available so that quick repairs and supply restoration can be ensured in any emergency situation. The emergency response teams have been kept fully active at the field level.

Yadav added that continuous monitoring of load management is being done keeping in mind the increasing demand due to the use of heaters and other electrical appliances during the winter season. Special instructions have also been issued for line loss control and supply balance.

He appealed to the people that during rain, snowfall, strong wind or fog they should not venture near broken electric wires or poles. The MD said that any electrical emergency should be immediately reported to the nearest power office or toll-free number 1912. “Despite the potential conditions of winter weather and La Niña, UPCL is committed to providing continuous, safe and quality power to all consumers in the State,’’ he said.
