The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has rejected allegations of corruption levelled against its managing director recently by Uttarakhand Berozgar Sangh head Bobby Panwar. The UPCL director (Operations) ML Arya stated that the corporation has made significant progress in recent years, achieving the top position in consumer service ratings among Himalayan States. Additionally, UPCL has successfully reduced Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses to 14.85 per cent, which is better than the national average. Over the past two years, there has been a considerable increase of 28.56 per cent in revenue collection, he added.
Arya further added that UPCL has also achieved national recognition by fully complying with the Bharat Net Scheme (BNS), which targets 100 per cent electrification. The corporation has received approval for 100 per cent of its estimates from the Central government under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) aimed at reducing losses.
The director added that important projects are currently underway, including the installation of a smart metering system using the latest technology, the undergrounding of overhead power lines on major roads in Dehradun funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the installation of capacitor banks statewide to address low voltage and poor power factor issues. Despite these accomplishments, efforts to tarnish the corporation’s reputation are a cause for concern and part of a conspiracy. Arya emphasised that these claims relate to cases from several years ago that have already been investigated and resolved. Earlier, similar allegations against other individuals had been dismissed by the court, which not only rejected bail petitions but also prosecuted the accusers. The corporation is considering taking legal action regarding the recent allegations, he added.
