Corporation claims the new arrangement will benefit both the consumers & UPCL

The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) will now bill the electricity consumers on a monthly basis. As of now the consumers receive the bill once in two months. The corporation has decided to change the billing cycle following the tariff order of Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Authority on March 30 in which it had directed all domestic consumers to be billed on a monthly basis.

The managing director of the UPCL, Anil Kumar Yadav said that the UPCL has issued guidelines to all regional units for billing of consumers on a monthly basis. In the first phase the domestic consumers (with a power load up to four KW)  of the power distribution division (urban) Kashipur, Jaspur, Bajpur, Sitarganj,  Khatima and Rudrapur would be billed on monthly basis. Along with this, for the consumers whose bills have been issued in the month of March 2023, the next billing will be done on bi-monthly basis in the month of May, 2023, after which their billing will be started on a monthly basis from the month of June, 2023. Similarly, for the consumers whose bills have been issued in the month of April 2023, the next billing will be done on bi-monthly basis in the month of June 2023 and after that their billing will be started on a monthly basis from the month of July 2023.

It is pertinent to mention that the billing of domestic category consumers with a load of more than 4 KW in the state is being done on a monthly basis by UPCL. Similarly the billing of the consumers with a power load of upto 4 KW in the electricity distribution division (central), Dehradun and Rishikesh is also done on a monthly basis. The UPCL officials claim that apart from being light on the pockets of the consumers the monthly billing cycle is profitable for the corporation as it ensures monthly collection of money due from consumers.
