UPES signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Law (ULaw) to launch a centre of excellence (CoE) at UPES here on Friday. Sharma emphasised that everyone is aware of how AI has emerged and evolved over time, leading to various innovations and becoming more prevalent. While AI offers many benefits, it also presents challenges. He said the research centre to be established through this MoU will address numerous questions related to AI decision-making. Sharma also said that the partnership includes faculty exchanges, which will promote a rich exchange of knowledge and teaching practices. The deputy vice-chancellor of ULaw, Peter Crisp said, “We are thrilled to partner with UPES to extend ULaw’s 148-year legacy of legal excellence to India. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to nurturing career-ready legal professionals equipped to succeed in an increasingly complex and tech-driven world. Together, we aim to foster innovation in legal education, particularly in emerging areas such as AI and set new standards in training and research.”

The dean of the UPES School of Law and head of the Department of Internationality, Abhishek Sinha stated, “Partnerships with renowned global universities like ULaw align with our vision of creating the ‘University of Tomorrow.’ The establishment of the centre of excellence will enhance academic excellence and address the critical need for professionals who can navigate the ethical implications of emerging technologies like AI.
