The Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) has directed the deputy inspector general of police, P Renuka to investigate the alleged suicide of a woman named Neetu, resident of Nehru colony in Dehradun. She had allegedly hanged herself to death being harassed by her in-laws.  Commenting on the matter, the USCW chairperson Kusum Kandwal said that she had asked police to probe the allegation of harassment that was believed to have led her to take the extreme step.

Talking to The Pioneer, she said that the domestic violence cases are on the rise in Uttarakhand. “This is an alarming trend. I have personally encountered many such domestic violence cases. This case must be probed by police to decide whether there was any provocation behind the suspected suicide,” she said.

She further said that USCW would do everything possible if any victim of domestic violence would approach it for it.
