The Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) chairperson Kusum Kandwal has asked the police to take strict action in the alleged rape case involving a minor girl in Rishikesh.
Sharing more details of the alleged minor rape case, she said that a young man from the Shyampur area of Rishikesh had seduced the minor girl and then raped her in a hotel room. “USCW asked police to take stern action against the accused as soon as we were informed. We are really concerned over the minor girls being subjected to sexual assaults across the State. Fear of law must be instilled in the criminals. They must be made to face the consequences of their crimes,” she said.
She further said that she had spoken with the station house officer of Rishikesh Khushiram Pandey over phone and urged him to arrest the rape accused at the earliest. “Pandey informed me about the registration of a case against the accused following medical examination of the minor,” she said and added that they were satisfied with the police having taken the case seriously. “A case has been registered against the accused identified as Neeraj Kumar under sections 376, 363 and 366A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Pandey assured me that the police have launched a massive manhunt to locate and apprehend the accused. We hope the accused would be arrested soon and would be given exemplary punishment for the heinous crime,” USCW chairperson added.
