The chairperson of Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW), Kusum Kandwal has asked the Rudraprayag superintendent of police Vishakha Bhadane to take stringent measures in the case wherein a mentally challenged woman was allegedly gangraped in the district. Kandwal stated that the victim was allegedly gangraped by two men in Rudraprayag. She instructed the SP to swiftly apprehend all the suspects and ensure that strict legal action is taken against the guilty. The SP assured her that the Rudraprayag police are treating this matter with utmost seriousness.
Sources stated that two accused have been nabbed by the police while a third suspect is absconding. The incident had reportedly occurred last month.
Kandwal emphasised that people who commit such crimes have no place in society. If the accused individuals are guilty of the said offense, they will face the legal consequences. Apart from this, the USCW will make every possible effort to ensure justice if any woman is harassed at any level in the State, she added.
