The chairperson of Uttrakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) Kusum Kandwal conducted an inspection of Suddhowala jail along with her team members on Friday. She interacted with the inmates and took their feedback regarding the arrangements in the jail. She informed that there are 19 convicted female and 389 convicted male inmates in the jail. The number of undertrial female prisoners is 51 and the number of such male prisoners is 998, she added.
She further said that women inmates told her that there is no problem with the necessary facilities in the jail. Kandwal further said that doctors at the jail visit regularly for the checkup of the prisoners. Apart from this Kandwal reviewed the condition of sanitary napkin machines for the women prisoners in the state.
Further, member of the women’s child welfare committee Gauri Bala informed the USCW head that women are being given training in sewing-embroidery, painting and making jute bags. She further stated that all the women prisoners participate in every activity organised in jail.
Kandwal further inspected the crèche, in which she found that there is a proper facility regarding the care, education and play for the small children living with the undertrial prisoners. Apart from this, she was satisfied with the proper arrangement of PCO for the prisoners to contact their relatives.
