USCW chief meets minor rape victim at GDMC hospital

Chairperson of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) Kusum Kandwal visited the Government Doon Medical College hospital where she met the rape victim student from Purola. Kandwal met the team of doctors treating the victim and directed them to ensure that she gets the best possible treatment.
According to officials, a private school teacher in Purola area of Uttarkashi allegedly raped the girl student on May 13. Kandwal phoned the deputy inspector general of police P Renuka Devi and sought strict action in the case. The DIG informed that the victim had been hospitalised and had been referred to Dehradun from there. The accused has been arrested and booked under POCSO Act and other relevant laws. Visiting the victim in the GDMC hospital, Kandwal met her and her grandmother and assured her of stern action against the accused. The grandmother informed Kandwal that the victim is a sincere student who wishes to become a dancer when she grows up. The USCW chairperson assured that the government and the commission stand in full support with the victim. She also sought information about her health from the team of doctors treating the victim. She asked the GDMC principal Dr Ashutosh Sayana to ensure that the best treatment is provided to ensure the victim’s swift recovery.
