USCW to bring separate policy to women in State: Kandwal

The chairperson of Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) Kusum Kandwal said that the commission will be coming up with a separate policy for women in the State.This policy is focused mainly on aspects related to uplift of women and self employment. Kandwal said that the women desk, women helpline and women police station have started to give swift justice to women. She said this while on a visit to Pauri district on Tuesday. Kandwal inspected the medical college at Srikot and the women police station in Srinagar during her visit.
Talking to media persons, Kandwal said that even after 22 years of creation of Uttarakhand State there is no separate policy for the women. As the USCW chairperson, she is determined to bring out a separate policy for women. The draft has been prepared and for this commission has received various useful suggestions from the public. Now the commission is working on preparation of the final draft of the policy, she said. At Srikot, she said that instructions had been given to the chief medical superintendent to provide all required facilities to patients while also focusing on cleanliness in the wards. She also directed the women police officers to investigate complaints of women on a priority basis.
It is pertinent to mention that the USCW has registered 1,309 complaints of women and girls from April 1, 2022 till now and solved 607 of these while 702 are pending and are under process. Most of the complaints pertain to alleged mental torture, domestic violence, dowry and safety.
