Cyber crimes & drug related issues must be part of school education: DGP
Governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh said that technology and internet should be used with caution. He was speaking as the chief guest at an event organised at Raj Bhawan to discuss the book Cyber Encounters written by director general of police Ashok Kumar and co-authored by former DRDO scientist OP Manocha. The governor said that this book contains 12 stories that give an insight into the world of online criminals and the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies while tracking and catching them. He said that this book has been written on a very important topic considering the present scenario.
This book will play an important role in the prevention of cyber crimes which is a big challenge at present as many people are becoming victims of cyber fraud on a daily basis. The governor said, “We should use technology and the internet with caution. The stories in this book are relevant to today’s digital world but it is just the tip of the iceberg. We should also be aware of the dangers which can be caused by continuously developing technology which is meant to be used for good works.”
The DGP said that cyber crimes along with internal security of the country, drugs and traffic related issues must be made part of school education to ensure children know at least the basics about these issues. He further said that greed, fear and curiosity are the three main potential causes of most cyber frauds and people should ask five Ws and an H (What, Why, When, Where, Who and How) before proceeding to make any decision regarding the online or digital world. He said that the impact of Artificial intelligence will be quite dominant in the future and cyber criminals have already started using it for committing crimes. “Technology is continuously developing around the world and it is difficult to keep pace with increasing AI-related crimes for law enforcement as well as common people. The only way is to stay updated and aware of cyber crimes and take all preventive measures. One cannot neglect this aspect thinking it will not happen with us. It can happen with anybody irrespective of their gender, age or any other similar factors,” said Kumar.
Manocha also said that continuously developing technology is like a knife that can be used to perform tasks to make life easy as well as to kill a person. “We need to be equally cautious with technology too,” he added.
