USERC celebrates International Biodiversity Day with students

The Uttarakhand Centre for Science Education and Research (USERC) organised a programme on the occasion of International Day for Biological Diversity on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, the director of USERC Anita Rawat dwelt on the significant role the country’s culture has been playing in conservation of nature. She said that the need of the hour is to instil the values of nature conservation in students while advocating for utilisation of technology to preserve and enhance biodiversity in the State.
Rawat called for concrete actions towards biodiversity conservation, stressing on the need for a collaborative effort to achieve sustainable development and foster a harmonious relationship between humanity and nature.
The head of the department at the Botanical Survey of India S K Singh in his keynote address underscored the importance of collective contribution to the cause of nature conservation while exhorting students to start with small initiatives.
Students from various schools who participated were taken out on introductory tours of the Herbal Garden, Herbarium Laboratory and Museum at both the Botanical Survey of India and the Zoological Survey of India during the programme.
