USERC’s first STEM lab for differently abled children inaugurated in Doon

The first STEM lab of Uttarakhand Science Education and Research Centre (USERC) for the differently abled children, which is also the first such laboratory in the State was inaugurated in Dehradun on Saturday. Inaugurating the lab, USERC director Anita Rawat stressed on the importance of bringing differently abled children into the mainstream. She informed that USERC has been running various programmes to train the differently abled children. She stated that as many as 40 STEM labs have been opened in the State but the Dehradun STEM lab is the first lab in the State meant exclusively for differently abled children.
Elaborating on STEM lab, Rawat said the STEM labs were aimed to popularise science among the children and also to develop science temper in them. She apprised that STEM here means Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Learning Tree School principal Shivani expressed gratitude to USERC for coming up with STEM Lab for the differently abled in Dehradun. USERC scientist Om Prakash Nautiyal said that STEM labs are part of efforts to make the differently abled children self dependent. He also referred to various works of USERC.
Society of Pollution and Environmental Conservation Scientists (SPECS) secretary Brijmohan Sharma informed that SPECS and USERC have jointly conducted various training programmes for students at Learning Tree school. As many as 50 children, their parents, teachers and others were present on the occasion.
