USWC felicitates Padma Shri recipient Madhuri Barthwal

Uttarakhand State Women Commission (USWC) organised the National Parliament for Women programme on Thursday to felicitate several women of the state for their achievements and contribution in their respective fields.

The chief guest and special guest of the programme were Kotdwar MLA Ritu Khanduri and Cantt MLA Savita Kapoor who along with USWC chairperson Kusum Kandwal inaugurated the event. A total of 250 women participated in the event where discussions on several women-oriented issues like increasing cyber crimes against women and women safety besides the topics like women entrepreneur and women’s rights were held too. Nukkad Nataks were also performed that talked about gender disparity, child marriages, right of education to women and participation of men in women empowerment. The secretary of the department of Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) HC Semwal also provided information to women about the ongoing central and state governments’ schemes for women.

The member secretary of the commission Kamini Gupta said that the event was organised on the occasion of the International Women’s Day on Thursday which was on March 8 but since the model code of conduct (MCC) was effective in the state at that time, the commission did not organised the event at that time. She informed that seven women from different walks of life were felicitated at the event including Padma Shri recipient Madhuri Barthwal who talked about their struggle and what led them to their success. The other six women felicitated by the commission were Kanchan Negi, Hiresha Verma, Nalini Gusain, Razia Beig, Anamika Bisht and Hemlata.
