Terming the pilot project of operating non-stop Volvo buses between Dehradun and Delhi a success, the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) has decided to operate more such buses on the same route. The corporation started the operation of a Volvo bus on Tuesday from the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) under the pilot project claiming that it covers the distance between Dehradun and Delhi in four hours. However, the bus took about six hours to reach Delhi on its first day. Talking about it, the divisional manager of UTC in Dehradun, Sanjay Gupta said that the bus got delayed due to heavy traffic at certain stretches of the route. “The bus was stuck in traffic in Dehradun and then in Delhi on Tuesday. The bus enters Delhi mostly in about three and a half hours but it gets delayed due to the traffic jam there. The bus arrived on time on Wednesday but got stuck in traffic for about 30 minutes near Delhi on Thursday. On the other hand, the bus reaches here before the scheduled time from Delhi due to less traffic at night,” stated Gupta. He said that the number of passengers boarding the non-stop bus from Dehradun is also increasing every day. “On the first day, eight passengers boarded the bus from Dehradun but the number increased to 18 on the third day. We are receiving great response from people considering which, we will be increasing the number of the non-stop buses possibly from the next month.” He said, “We will also operate such buses at frequent intervals once the passenger rush reaches a certain level.”
