Uttarakhand celebrates its Foundation day today

Uttarakhand has completed 21 years of formation today. The state was formed on November 9, 2000 after combining with the districts from North western part of the Uttar Pradesh and a portion of Himalayan range. Earlier known as Uttaranchal, it is the 27th state of the country. Dehradun is the winter capital and Gairsain is the summer capital of Uttarakhand.

On the occasion of the State Foundation Day, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced the name of famous personalities for Gaurav Samman Award. Famous folk singer Narendra Singh Negi, writer Ruskin Bond, well known environmentalist Anil Joshi, mountaineer Bachendri Pal and former Chief Minister Late Narayan Dutt Tiwari.

Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology had organised a popular lecture by a famous Historian Ajay Sharma at Vigyan Dham, Dehradun. He gave a lecture on the topic ‘Journey of Uttarakhand Rajya Andolan’. Dr Rajendra Dobhal, Director General, UCOST, in his inaugural address said that it is time to focus on the achievements and progress achieved so far. He addressed the fact that the state has faced developmental issues as 80% of the facilities are only in Dehradun and plain areas. He mentioned the abundant opportunities in the state in the form of solar and water energy and in tourism sector.

Sharma talked about the various organisations like Nasha Nahi Rojgar Do, Uttarakhand Sangarshvani, Uttarakhand Jan Parishad, Uttarakhand Kranti Dal and Uttarakhand Jan Seva Manch etc with the help of which the formation of our state happened.
