Uttarakhand Congress cracks whip on rebels in ULB elections

The Uttarakhand Congress has expelled many leaders from the primary membership of the party for a period of six years for contesting against the official candidates of the party in the elections of the urban local bodies.

The State unit of the party has also requested the central leadership to take disciplinary action against Pithoragarh MLA Mayukh Mahar who is openly supporting a Congress rebel in the mayoral election of Pithoragarh.

On the recommendation of the district and Mahanagar units of the party, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara removed former Roorkee mayor Yashpal Rana from the party. His wife is contesting as an independent candidate in the Mayoral election in Roorkee.  Similarly Santosh Rawat, Kubja Dharmwan and Kavi Joshi, the party rebels in Rudraprayag, Ukhimath and Bageshwar respectively were also expelled from the party.

Mahara expelled the former vice president of the ex-servicemen cell, Mahendra Pal Singh Rawat for refusing to withdraw his candidature for the post of mayor, Municipal Corporation of Kotdwar in the favour of the official candidate of the party.

The PCC president also expelled Dineshchand Master and Mahendra Singh, the party rebels in Rishikesh, Sunil Panwar ( Gauchar, Chamoli), Gajpal Lal Saini, Anil Kumar and Anita Devi ( Karnprayag), Pushkar Singh Rawat (Gairsain), Arti Navani (Peepalkoti), Preeti Panwar ( Chamba), Vinod Lal Shah ( Ghansali) and Bhagat Singh Negi ( Tehri) for contesting against official candidates of the party.

The advisor of the PCC president, Amarjeet Singh said that the party leadership has taken a serious note of the leaders who are hurting the prospects of the official candidates of the party in the ULB elections and has expelled them for a period of six years from the primary membership of the party.

Singh added that the central leadership of the party has been requested to take action on Pithoragarh MLA Mahar. Similarly a request has been sent to the national president of Youth Congress for disciplinary action against the national secretary of Youth Congress Rishendra Mahar. 

 Singh said that the PCC president has made it clear that the indiscipline will not be tolerated and stern action will be taken against whosoever who crosses the line of discipline in the party.
