Uttarakhand youth brought laurels at the 48th WorldSkills Competition 2026 held in Shanghai, China, from September 22 to 27. Sania Joshi and Parth Vohra from Uttarakhand won silver medals for India.
According to the officials, India delivered its best performance at WorldSkills, winning six silver medals and 20 Medallions for Excellence and securing 10th position globally. The competition saw participation of about 1,400 participants from across the world in 64 different skill trades.
Uttarakhand’s Joshi won silver in Retail Sales skill while Parth Vohra won silver in Industrial Design Technology, contributing significantly to India’s achievement.
The officials further said that the WorldSkills Competition is an international skill platform where young talents from different countries showcase their technical skills, efficiency, innovation, creativity and professional excellence. “The achievement of two youths from Uttarakhand on such a platform is a matter of pride for the state,” said an officer hailing from the state.
Officials informed that an important link to the success of these participants was the state-level competition and selection process of IndiaSkills 2025-26. Skill Development and Employment Department and Uttarakhand Skill Development Committee (UKSDS) provided opportunities to the youth of the State to participate in various skill trades and showcase their efficiency, they averred.
“Through State, regional and national-level competitions of IndiaSkills, outstanding participants get the opportunity to advance to the next level. Through the same process, selected talents get the opportunity to compete at the national level and move forward for international skill competitions,” an officer stated.
Speaking specifically of Uttarakhand, he said that this achievement is the result of efforts being made by the Skill Development and Employment department and UKSDS to promote skill excellence among youth of the State and connect them with national and international opportunities.
