In order to preserve the cultural heritage of the State, a two-day Uttarakhand Folk Heritage event will be organised in Dehradun on December 2 and 3.
Commenting on the importance of the programme, the managing director of Chardham Hospital Dr KP Joshi said that the programme will commence on December 2 and conclude on December 3. The event will feature the State’s folk songs, folk dances, traditional musical instruments, forgotten songs and various forms of music and dance. Notable performances including Pahad ka Chholiya, Chapeli, Badrinath’s Jagar, Khaded Geet, Nagaraja’s Jagar and the dance of the Bhotiya tribe will also be presented during the event. Joshi emphasised that the purpose of this programme is to educate the younger generation about the rich culture of Uttarakhand. Additionally, there is a need to promote and showcase the handicrafts and skills from our villages on a statewide platform. In order to prevent migration, it is crucial to generate employment opportunities. Further, the artists participating in the event should receive a fixed amount of financial support from the government, he added.
He further added that Uttarakhand possesses a plethora of skills and crafts. During this two-day event, traditional attire and jewellery from Takanar Valley, Chamoli, Bhotiya tribe, Kumaon, Dharchula and Jaunsar will also be presented. Folk singers including Narendra Singh Negi, Pritam Bharatwan, Meena Rana and Saurav Maithani will also perform for the audience in the event. Further, an exhibition will be held to showcase the handcrafted products from villages in Uttarakhand, he said.
