Uttarakhand holds vast potential in Solar power sector: CM Dhami

 Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that there is a vast potential in the solar power and hydro power sectors in the State. He said that the State has formulated a new solar power policy for the encouragement of solar power in the State. He was addressing a programme organised by Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA) at his residence on Saturday. In the programme the CM inaugurated many schemes and programmes of the department.

Dhami said that the State government has taken a target to install solar power plants on all the government buildings by the year 2026 and for it a provision of Rs 100 crore has been made.

He said that to encourage roof-top solar plants a combined subsidy of 70 per cent is being given by the union and State governments. The CM said that a grant of Rs 3.72 crore to 734 beneficiaries has been paid by the State government under PM Surya Ghar Yojana. Similarly a subsidy of 30 to 50 per cent would be given to domestic and non domestic consumers for installing solar heater plants. Under the CM solar self employment scheme, solar power plants of capacity 133 MW have been sanctioned for 750 developers. A target to set up solar power plants of 250 MW capacity has been taken under the scheme till the year 2026.

The CM averred that the country is moving ahead at a fast pace in the field of renewable energy sector. The renewable sources of energy have emerged as better alternatives for fossil fuels.

He added that under the Panchamrit plan Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a target of production of 500 GigaWatts of renewable power till the year 2023. The CM said that the government has taken a target to make the country carbon neutral till the year 2070.

Cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi said that solar power can play an important role in generating self employment opportunities. 

MLA Bansidhar Bhagat, secretary power R Meenakshi Sundaram, director UREDA Ranjana Rajguru, MD PTCUL PC Dhyani and  others were present on the occasion.
