Uttarakhand ignored in Railway budget: Dhasmana

PNS | DEHRADUN

The vice president of Uttarakhand Congress Suryakant Dhasmana has criticised the Union government for ignoring the State rail budget.

He said that the Union government has allocated Rs 2,52,000 crore to Railways in the budget but Uttarakhand has got only Rs 4,641 crore for rail projects which is 1.8 per cent of the total budget. He said the meagre allocation is not adequate for the ongoing and proposed rail projects in the State. Dhasmana said that Uttarakhand has sent BJP MPs to Lok Sabha since the last three consecutive parliamentary elections but they have failed in their duty of ensuring that the State gets its rightful share.

The Congress leader said that the BJP leaders talk about making efforts for green bonus from the centre but they have failed in safeguarding the interests of the State. Dhasmana said that the Union government should have provided a special package to Uttarakhand to effectively deal with the natural disasters in the budget. However, in the absence of strong advocacy by the MPs, the State has been left high and dry, he added.
