Uttarakhand increases ex-gratia grant for martyrs’ families to Rs 50 lakh each

The Uttarakhand government has increased the ex-gratia grant to the family of martyrs from existing Rs 10 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made this declaration while addressing a programme organised to mark the Kargil Vijay Diwas on Friday. The CM announced that reservation will be given to Agniveers in the State government services and for it an act will be brought. He also announced that the time period for the dependents of the martyrs for submitting application for government jobs would be increased from two years to five years. Dhami said that the dependents of the martyrs will be given jobs in group C and D posts in other offices of the State government apart from offices of district magistrates (DM).

Paying glowing tribute to the martyrs, the CM said that the brave soldiers of the State showed exemplary courage in the Kargil war to protect the country. The entire world acknowledged the valour of Indian soldiers who fought the war in adverse conditions. Dhami said that the victory saga of Kargil is incomplete without the bravehearts of Uttarakhand and the State will never forget the sacrifice of its 75 sons in the war. He said that it is firmly believed in our culture that patriotism is the best form of worship. The CM said that being son of a soldier, he has seen the struggle of a soldier and his family. He said Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister of the country during the Kargil war and India not only won the war it also registered a diplomatic victory. The CM said that it was Vajpayee who made arrangement for funeral of the martyrs at their native places.

He said that under PM Narendra Modi the Indian Army is becoming more stronger and capable. On one hand the government is stressing on modernisation of the armed forces and on the other it is enhancing the facilities for the armed forces personnel and their families.

Speaking on the occasion, the soldier welfare minister Ganesh Joshi said that the State government under the leadership of CM Dhami is committed for the welfare of the ex-servicemen and the dependents of the martyrs. A total of 26 dependents of martyrs have been given government jobs in the State. The State government has also increased the one time disbursement for the decorated soldiers and officers. The minister said that Shaurya Sthal ( Sainnya Dham) is coming up at Guniyal Gaon of Dehradun .
