Uttarakhand police seek 115 companies of CAPF for LS polls

Uttarakhand police will ask the central government to provide 115 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and about 15,000 home guards to ensure free, fair and peaceful Lok Sabha elections in the State. The CAPF will mostly be deployed in vulnerable pockets of Lok Sabha constituencies during the elections, the additional director general of police (Crime, Law and Order) and the State police nodal officer for the election, AP Anshuman said. He said that the police have prepared a thorough force deployment plan to ensure security, law and order during elections. Besides seeking 15,000 home guards and 115 CAPF companies that include over 10,000 personnel, police will also deploy 6,000 home guards of the State, about 5,000 PRD personnel, forest guards of the forest department, civil police and other personnel that work in the departments under the State’s police.
The ADG said that when the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) comes into force after the announcement of election dates by the election commission the Flying Squad Team (FST) and Static Surveillance Team (SST) will also be activated in the State. Both teams check the flow of cash and liquor during elections while ensuring compliance of MCC in districts. He also informed that monitoring cells are active in each district to monitor forged videos, hate speeches and other such activities on social media platforms that can disturb peace, harmony, and law and order.
The police will act against each such offender as per the intensity of his/ her offence. Some VVIPs are also expected to visit the State ahead of the elections and considering that, some personnel are getting training as part of providing advance security, Anshuman added. He has also been conducting regular meetings with the police officials concerned of the Lok Sabha constituencies. He said that the senior police officials have also conducted meetings with the authorities of the neighbouring states and some are planned to be held in the near future.
