The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) along with Haryana STF apprehended a key member of a cheating syndicate involved in the recruitment examination of Wildlife Institute of India (WII) in Dehradun last year. The accused Pawan Wasi was arrested in Haryana’s Jind district, marking a significant development in an ongoing investigation, the senior superintendent of police of STF, Ayush Agrawal said.
He stated that this arrest follows the previous detainment of four syndicate members, including the well-known fugitive Mohit Mor, who had recently surrendered in a Dehradun court. The SSP informed that the investigation began after Suresh Kumar from WII staff registered an FIR against them at the Patelnagar police station on September 17, 2023. According to the complainant, two candidates were caught using electronic devices to cheat during the WII’s recruitment examination for the post of Multi Tasking Staff (MTS) held at Raja Rammohan Roy school. Subsequent inquiries revealed the involvement of a larger organised group using advanced gadgets for exam malpractice, he said.
Agrawal informed that the investigation was transferred to the STF considering the gravity of the case. He said that the STF’s ongoing investigation aims to uncover further details and additional suspects involved in this elaborate cheating scheme of the recruitment process. The accused has provided important details about his accomplices and more arrest can be expected in this case, he added.
