Uttarakhand to open college, announces CM

A milestone in higher education

The State government will open a college in every development block. Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat made this announcement while speaking as the chief guest a public felicitation held for him at the Soban Singh Jeena (SSJ) university campus in Almora on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, Rawat said that the government is working to speed up development by utilising local resources. Stating that the local youth are innovative, he said that universities can also contribute to development by doing better work. The state government is working on various spheres including tourism, education, film and adventure, he said.

The CM also announced his approval to Rs 31.67 crore for various construction works of the SSJ university. The sum announced by the CM includes Rs 4.52 for construction of the university’s vocational course department building, Rs 5.25 crore for construction of centre for excellence at Natural Resources Data Management Centre, Rs 4.30 crore for construction of Yoga Science department building and Rs 1.60 crore for establishing advanced cell and molecular biology building among other works.

Speaking on the occasion, the State minister for Higher Education, Dhan Singh Rawat said that Bageshwar and Pithoragarh colleges had been granted the status of SSJ university campus. With the digilocker system, all degrees of the university are now being made online. Any professor wanting to get transferred to Kumaon university Nainital campus or the SSJ university campuses in Almora, Bageshwar or Pithoragarh will receive the option and subsequent transfer within one month.

Speaking as the special guest on the occasion, Vidhan Sabha deputy speaker Raghunath Chauhan said that the SSJ university will prove to be a milestone in university education here. State minister for Women Welfare and Child Development, Rekha Arya said that the state government is committed to achieving the desired level of development in Uttarakhand.
