Digantara Research and Technologies Private Limited, a startup originating from Uttarakhand, is making waves in the Indian space technology ecosystem. Established in 2018 by Anirudh Sharma and Rahul Rawat, the Bengaluru-based company is on a mission to revolutionise space operations with its cutting-edge innovations. The company is developing the world’s first in-situ active orbital surveillance platform, popularly known as Space-Map.
This ground-breaking platform leverages a constellation of high-resolution nanosatellites to detect, track and predict resident space objects (RSOs) in low Earth orbit (LEO). With its nanosatellite subsystems in various stages of prototyping, validation and assembly, Digantara is setting new benchmarks in space situational awareness. Recognised for its pioneering efforts, Digantara was awarded the prestigious DPIIT Startup India National Startup Award in 2022. Its comprehensive ecosystem addresses critical challenges in space operations by streamlining processes for stakeholders. Among its most notable innovations is the Space Climate and Object Tracker (SCOT), an advanced patented space surveillance sensor capable of monitoring space weather and tracking RSOs.
Complementing this is the Orbital Engine (OrEng), a sophisticated software suite that converts SCOT data into actionable orbital insights. Together, these technologies power the Space Awareness Data and Analysis Product (Space-ADAPT), a suite of tools built to enhance situational awareness in space. Digantara’s success reflects the growing influence of Uttarakhand’s entrepreneurial landscape, highlighting the potential of startups from the region to make a global impact. By addressing the complexities of space operations and offering cutting-edge solutions, Digantara is not only elevating India’s standing in the space sector but also putting Uttarakhand on the map as a hub for innovation.
