Uttarkashi police launches intensive checking drive at sensitive border areas

Uttarkashi Police launched a major operation early on Thursday morning to rein in on criminal and illegal activities in the mountainous border areas of the district. The operation was focused mainly on  curbing human trafficking, forest wealth and illegal drug smuggling and maintaining a robust security system in the strategically sensitive areas of the district, said police.

During the operation, separate teams comprising 65 police personnel conducted checkpoints at nine sensitive points. A total of 427 vehicles and 1,379 people were checked. Action was taken against 13 drivers under the MV Act and against four individuals under the Police Act for violating traffic rules.

The superintendent of police, Uttarkashi, Kamlesh Upadhyaya stated that the district police have been conducting random checking operations to prevent crime and illegal activities in the district. “Special vigilance is being maintained at border barriers and searches for suspicious items and illegal drugs have been intensified at all entry and exit points,” the SSP declared.
