Preparations are in full swing in the Harsil- Mukhwa region of Uttarkashi district for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed Winter Yatra on February 27. The area is being decorated and construction work on roads, parking spaces and other necessary infrastructure is being carried out at a rapid pace. The finishing work on the road leading to the army helipad in Harsil is in its final stage. In Mukhwa village, the authorities are decorating Ganga temple and old structures in the village. They have also rebuilt a pedestrian path leading to the temple and stairs have been constructed for easier access too.
A viewpoint is being developed within the temple premises for the PM to observe the Himalayan landscape and the Harsil Valley. Road improvements and safety measures are being implemented to ensure smooth access to the village. A parking area is also in its final construction phase, as per the officials. During an inspection of the preparations on Thursday, the Uttarkashi district magistrate Mehrban Singh Bisht reached the helipad in his vehicle.
The officials informed that until now, access to this helipad, which is operated by the army, was only possible on foot due to the lack of a road. The new road will provide convenience to the army and facilitate the movement of dignitaries.
The DM inspected the ongoing work and directed officials to complete all tasks with efficiency. He instructed the construction of smart toilets at the parking site and improvements to the pedestrian path leading to the temple. He also reviewed the temple premises and held discussions with the Gangotri Temple Committee regarding the arrangements for the visit. He instructed officials to camp in the area and oversee the work continuously. He instructed them to complete all work within a week as senior officials are expected to visit soon for further inspection.
