Uttarkashi starts gearing up for Gangotri, Yamunotri Yatra

In latest news from Uttarakhand, the commencement of the Char Dham Yatra drawing near, the Uttarkashi administration has sprung into action to facilitate a safe, smooth and well-organised Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham pilgrimage. Chairing a meeting, the Uttarkashi chief development officer (CDO) Jai Kishan directed the officers concerned to streamline all necessary arrangements with special focus on improved roads, traffic management and parking. He instructed the Border Roads Organisation officers to ensure that the road widening work in Dharasu Band is completed latest by March 31. Besides, the CDO stressed on making Gangotri National Highway pothole- free and installation of crash barriers at the accident-prone places along the Barkot section of the National Highway by the same deadline. Besides, stress was laid on repairing of defunct street lights, readying public toilets and facilitating uninterrupted drinking water supply. Plus, the animal husbandry department was asked to have all the horses and mules to be used in ferrying pilgrims registered within the stipulated time.
