The leader of opposition (LoP) in State assembly Yashpal Arya has said that the education system in the State is getting severely affected by the large number of vacant posts of officers in the primary and secondary education departments.
In a letter written to the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the LoP said that the education system is in dire straits as many posts of officers are vacant in the department. He said that in almost all districts important posts such as chief education officer (CEO), district education officer (DEO) elementary and DEO secondary are vacant. Arya said that in Rudraprayag district all these three important posts (CEO, DEO elementary and DEO secondary) are vacant while one post out of the three is vacant in Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Bageshwar, Chamoli and Almora districts.
Arya added that 40 posts of Block Education Officer (BEO) are vacant in the State. He said that on one hand the State administration talks about new education policy and on another the department is reeling under shortage of lecturers, principals, BEO and other administrative posts. He said that no efforts are being made to fill these vacant posts which are having a direct bearing on the students of the government schools of the State. In his letter Arya has demanded that the vacant posts in the department should be filled without any further delay.
