Various activities held on third day of 119th Kisan Mela

Various activities were held on the third day of the four-day 119th All India Kisan Mela at the GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT) on Sunday. A cattle exhibition held on the occasion saw Jambi Bhalla’s Gabhin (pregnant) Jersey cow being adjudged the best cattle. A total of 37 cattle were part of the exhibition. Cattle were displayed in various categories including buffalo, goat, horse, milch cow, crossbreed milch cow and pregnant cow. The owners of cattle who won first place in various categories received Rs 2,000 cash while the owner of the best cattle received Rs 5,000 cash.
University officials informed that the farmers visiting the fair purchased seeds of various kharif crops from stalls in the Kisan Mela. Farmers purchased seeds worth Rs 19.30 lakh from the inaugural day till the afternoon of the third day from various stalls of the university. In addition to this seeds and saplings worth Rs 1.10 lakh were also purchased from various other stalls.
The university’s extension education director Jitendra Kwatra informed that the concluding function of the Kisan Mela will be held on Monday at the university’s Gandhi hall. Former governor of Maharashtra and Goa, and ex-chief minister of Uttarakhand, Bhagat Singh Koshyari will be the chief guest on the occasion. Winners of various competitions held during the fair will be awarded on the final day of the Kisan Mela, he added.
