Various parts of Haridwar were waterlogged due to rain from morning till evening on Saturday. Drains also overflowed on various roads in the city. One of the busiest intersections of the city- Bhagat Singh Chowk was also waterlogged due to incessant rain from about 11 AM to 7 PM. The traffic to SIIDCUL and BHEL was also affected due to this intersection being waterlogged. Apart from this, waterlogging was also reported in Krishnanagar, Shivpuri, Lathowali and other places in Kankhal. Patches of the Haridwar-Delhi were also waterlogged. The vehicular traffic was disrupted in various parts of the city due to the situation resulting from rain. In the Jwalapur area which is important from the viewpoint of local commercial activities, waterlogging was witnessed from Aryanagar Chowk to Katehra Bazaar and Railway Station Road.
As the situation worsened, the social media was flooded with videos of waterlogging in various parts of the city with the citizens blaming public representatives and officials for the situation.
The Jwalapur Vyapar Mandal general secretary Vicky Taneja said that the rain on Saturday was normal but even then water had entered shops. The condition of the area will be much worse if it rains heavily. Taneja said that this situation was the result of encroachments and lack of proper cleaning of drains as the municipal corporation had started cleaning the drains too late.
Haridwar Vyapar Mandal general secretary Aman Sharma said that water had entered many shops in Vishnu Ghat, Sabzi Mandi and other areas of Haridwar. The problem of waterlogging during the rains is not new. The authorities should take concrete action on a proper plan to resolve this issue, he added.
