The president of Uttarakhand Berozgar Sangh Bobby Panwar along with various activists and organisations, has announced the formation of Uttarakhand Swabhiman Manch. Panwar described it as an alternative to political parties that have not been able to address the State’s issues.
In a Press conference in Uttarakhand Press Club on Wednesday, Panwar stated that activists across the State will now work together under this platform and make efforts to connect with other individuals and groups raising independent issues. He said that different organisations and individuals have been fighting separate battles within the State. He recalled that Uttarakhand was achieved after long struggles and the sacrifice of 42 lives, yet in 25 years, unemployment and corruption have only deepened.
He alleged that officials, ministers and representatives have contributed to this situation. He said that their new platform aims to provide an alternative for the State and that people want change. He criticised the existing political parties, saying that while buildings have been constructed in the name of schools and hospitals, there is still a shortage of teachers, doctors and nurses. He accused past governments of failing to improve the State’s condition.
He stated that despite contesting elections without the support of major parties, independent candidates had received significant public support. He said that people had sent a message through local elections, where several independent candidates won. Panwar claimed that those thinking about the State’s issues had decided to come together on a single platform.
He also warned that there could be attempts to break the organisation but the commitment remains to provide an alternative for Uttarakhand. He announced that after Holi, they will hold discussions in 11 districts for 11 days to raise awareness. The first gathering will be held in Uttarkashi on March 16, he said.
