Various steps taken to boost sports in State: CM

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that various steps including training camps are being held across the State to encourage sportsmanship among the State’s players. He said that sports equipment is being distributed in the camp and that players will receive free education, medical care and food as part of the residential sports hostel scheme. He said this during the opening ceremony of the 22nd Uttarakhand State Junior and Senior Badminton Championship here on Thursday. Dhami highlighted the government’s initiatives to support athletes and ongoing efforts to elevate sports and talent in the region. He informed that the State government is offering incentives of Rs two crore, Rs 1.5 crore and Rs one crore for Olympic gold, silver and bronze medalists respectively. Further, gold, silver and bronze medal winners in national games are receiving Rs six lakh, Rs four lakh and Rs three lakh incentives respectively.
He spoke about the implementation of a new sports policy aimed at promoting sports and supporting players within the State. As part of this initiative, 31 players who have achieved medals this year have been offered positions in government departments. Further, under the Mukhyamantri Udiyaman Khiladi Unnayan Yojana, a total of 3,900 players aged between eight and 14 years are receiving a monthly scholarship of Rs 1,500. Additionally, a budget of Rs 10 crore has been allocated for the establishment of open gyms at the village level, he said.
