Veggi rates now normal at wholesale market
Farmers’ protest not affecting the supply
Even though the supply of widely consumed vegetables and their rates have returned to normal in the wholesale vegetables and fruits market in Dehradun, but many local vendors are still selling them as per their old hiked rates. For the last few months, the prices of vegetables like onions, tomatoes and potatoes remained high due to insufficient supply from the other parts of the country to Dehradun. However, the secretary of Niranjanpur Mandi Samiti Vijay Thapliyal today disclosed that the prices of the vegetables like potatoes, onions and tomatoes have become stable in Mandi as the supply of vegetables which was getting delayed due to factors like rain or Covid-19 have now returned to normal.
But on other side, most of the local vegetable vendors are selling tomatoes for Rs 50 per kilogramme, potatoes for Rs 40 to Rs 45 per kilogramme and onions for Rs 50 per kilogramme as per the locals, while the rates are quite less in the wholesale market. Thapliyal stated that the wholesale rates of the vegetables like potatoes and tomatoes are about Rs 15 per kilogramme only. Talking about the hiked prices by the local vendors, Thapliyal said that the local vendors do add additional charges while selling vegetables but even if they are selling overpriced vegetables, the Mandi Samiti does not have any authority anymore to enquire or question them as per the new rules. Moreover, he also informed that the supply of vegetables and fruits from other states are not getting affected due to farmers protest so far in the city as many vegetables manage arrive here through various diverted roots.
