Veterans hail Uttarakhand Governor’s effort on ex servicemen welfare

The initiative of ex-servicemen welfare and their rehabilitation undertaken by the Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General (Retd) Gurmit Singh is receiving wide acclaim from the armed forces veterans of the state.
Presiding over a meeting held in Raj Bhawan recently, the governor laid emphasis on the welfare of ex-service men and said they should not be ignored in the scheme of things in the state dominated by ex-servicemen. He instructed Principal Secretary, Soldier Welfare, L Fanai and other officers to undertake steps for the welfare of veterans. The Governor directed that the problems of soldiers, ex-servicemen, and their families who received gallantry awards should be resolved on priority basis. Further he asked the state administration to provide an incentive of Rs 5001 to all the disabled ex-servicemen on the behalf of Raj Bhawan. He said that this will be a gesture of thanks to these former soldiers for their services to the nation.
In the meeting the governor also asked the ex-servicemen to provide their contribution in State’s Him Prahari scheme. He said that Sainik Punarvas society shall work with an effective vision, mission and thinking for the modernization of the institution. The Governor also ordered the officials to digitally collect the data of beneficiaries which includes ex-service men, Veer Naris, dependents, and physically challenged soldiers, which will benefit the officials to identify them easily from the list.
The Governor said in a view to restructured Uttarakhand Sainik Rehabilitation Society, the focus should be on Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled android mobile based portal and website.
All these initiatives of the governor are being appreciated by the ex servicemen. When contacted by The Pioneer, Colonel (retd) P L Prashar who had participated in the Indo-Pak war of 1965 said, “the positive transformation of Sainik Punarvas is significant and it will definitely help the dependents of Ex-servicemen to connect to the organisation easily through mobile portals”.
Another veteran Honorary Captain ( Retd) R P Bhatt said the governor’s advice that the daughters of Ex-Servicemen should be given training for examinations like NDA and many other government jobs by the Sainik Punarvas department is being welcomed by veterans and their families. This is a good initiative to enhance the confidence of girls and encourage them to join the armed forces,’’ he said.
Subedar (Retd) Suman Singh Deundi said, “The Governor is doing a commendable job for the Ex-Servicemen and if needed can again put up our uniform and sacrifice ourselves for this great nation”.
