Vidhan Sabha budget session starts today

The budget session of the Vidhan Sabha will commence today in Dehradun with the address of the governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh. The Vidhan Sabha secretariat and State administration have made all the necessary preparations for smooth conduct of the session.
On Monday, the speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan presided over the meeting of the business advisory committee held at her office in Vidhan Sabha. The meeting was attended by the Parliamentary Affairs minister Prem Chand Agarwal, leader of opposition (LoP) in Vidhan Sabha Yashpal Arya, BSP leader Mohammad Shahzad, Chakrata MLA Pritam Singh, Rajpur Road MLA Khajan Dass and Raipur MLA Umesh Sharma ‘Kau’. The agenda for the session was decided in the meeting.
The meetings of the BJP and Congress legislature parties were also held on Monday. Both the ruling and the opposition parties worked on their respective strategies for the session in the meetings.
After the address of the governor, the speaker will read the governor’s address in the post lunch session on Tuesday. The discussion on the governor’s address and vote of thanks on the address will be held on February 19. It is likely that the State government will table the budget of the State on February 20. The budget 2025-26 of the State is expected to amount to about Rs 1,10,000 crore. Apart from the budget, the government will table the State economic survey and annual reports of different corporations and departments in the house.
However, all eyes will be on the Land Law Act which the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had promised to the people of the State.
The Vidhan Sabha secretariat has received more than 550 questions from the legislators for the budget session. The Vidhan Sabha secretariat is working to make the budget session paperless. As per the norms the Vidhan Sabha building in Dehradun is now e- Vidhan Sabha or National e- Vidhan Application ( NeVA) . However, it is likely that the session this time will not be completely paperless.
