Vigilance catches GST assistant commissioner red handed accepting bribe

The Vigilance Establishment on Tuesday caught the assistant commissioner of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) department Shashikant Dubey red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 75,000. Dubey had been allegedly pressurising a restaurant owner to pay him a bribe under the pretext of pointing out irregularities in the restaurant bills as per GST rules. He allegedly threatened the owner to impose a heavy penalty and sought a bribe.
The man who owns a restaurant in Rajpur Road approached Vigilance with the complaint. Considering this, the trap team of the Vigilance on Tuesday caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 75,000 from the restaurant owner. After his arrest, the Vigilance team also raided the Dubey’s Dehradun residence on Canal Road and conducted inquiries about his movable and immovable properties at other places, the senior superintendent of police of Vigilance, Dhirendra Singh Gunjyal said.
He also announced a cash reward for the trap team for their incredible work in the case. Gunjyal said that if any officer/employee appointed in any government department, demands bribes by exerting any kind of pressure in the discharge of his official duties and has acquired illegal property disproportionate to his income, the Vigilance will take strict action against them.
