Villager fatally electrocuted, police to probe mishap

One person was electrocuted to death when a metal rod touched an electricity wire during construction work in Jagthana village in Kapkot area. The man was declared dead by doctors in the district hospital. Locals said that the roof slab of a house was being laid in the village on Thursday morning. A metal rod touched an electricity wire which resulted in electrocution of 44-year old villager Gunjar Singh. He was taken to the district hospital where he was declared dead. The police reached the hospital and took possession of the body. The Kapkot police will investigate the incident. Locals aver that this was the seventh such death by electrocution in the area in a period of four years. Investigation of the past cases had revealed negligence of the power department. Though compensation was paid in the past incidents, locals state that the authorities have not resolved the issues which continue to cause fatal mishaps. Apart from villagers, cattle have also been killed by electrocution in rural areas of the district in such incidents.
